The King of Dagbon, Ndan Ya Naa Abukari II has called for renewed efforts and determination to combat galamsey following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed eight lives including the Defence Minister, Edward Omane Boamah and Minister of Environment, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

The Dagbon Overlord also called for unity and stability, following what he described as a monumental national tragedy.

“This tragedy must renew our determination to uphold the unity and stability of our nation and combat of the galamsey menace in the country” Ndan Ya Naa said in a statement issued on Thursday.

The statement signed by Gbewaa Palace Secretary, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Mohammed said the ‘monumental national tragedy’ is a heartbreaking blow to the soul of the nation, noting that Dagbon will keep the eight in its prayers.

“This monumental national tragedy, which we have never witnessed in recent time, claiming the lives of two of his sons, Hon. Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Mutala and Hon. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed and six other brave and distinguished citizens of our beloved country, is a heartbreaking blow to the soul of the nation” it said.

“As a Kingdom that values peace, sacrifice, and unity, Dagbon mourns alongside the entire nation This loss is not limited to their families and communities but a grief shared collectively by Ghanaians” the statement added.

Ndan Ya Naa called for thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the tragic crash to avert any such tragedy in future.
