Help ensure discipline - Community leaders urged

Donkro-Nkwanta (B/A), Aug. 24, GNA - Mr Charles Abraham Baffoe, member of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church and a retired educationist, has urged community leaders to help check conflicts among parents, teachers and students to ensure discipline in schools. Mr Baffoe was addressing the congregation of the Church at the Nkoranza South District annual camp meeting at Donkro-Nkwanta at the weekend.

He deplored the current level of indiscipline among students and asked parents to co-operate and encourage teachers in the training of their children.

The retired educationist advised teachers to be disciplined and to guard against negative practices that could tarnish their image as role models.

Mr Baffoe called on parents to invest in the education of their children to enable them to get gainful employment in future. He appealed to students to take their education seriously and to shun illicit sex and other social vices to avoid contracting the HIV/AIDS pandemic or to drop out of school.

He commended the Government for constructing school blocks and teachers' bungalows as well as providing textbooks and furniture to enhance education.

"Parents should also appreciate such efforts of the government and enrol their children in school to enhance their chances in life in the future enrolment", he added.

Pastor James Kwaku Badu, President of the Mid-West Ghana Conference of the Church, in a message stressed the need for members to remain in fellowship with Jesus Christ to be able to overcome temptations.

He advised them to remain faithful to the teachings of Jesus Christ and follow his footsteps for a better and happy life in the face of the economic hardship, moral decadence and social vices.

Pastor Martin Appiah Kyeremeh, in-charge of the Nkoranza South District SDA Church, in a sermon asked the rich to appreciate the kindness of God for their wealth and offer part of their wealth to promote the work of God.

"Such people should assist the needy, poor widows, orphans and the oppressed in society and God will richly bless them", he said. About 1,200 members, are attending the Camp Meeting under the theme, "United in Warmth of Fellowship", Mr Lord Aduse-Poku, Communication Director of the Church, said.
