Nana Agyare Bofour IV, chief of Kojo-Bofour in the Pru District of Brong-Ahafo region, has appealed to the National House of Chiefs to intervene for the quick settlement of numerous chieftaincy disputes in the area which are degenerating into clashes.
He also appealed to the National Security Council to act swiftly to avert the possibility of a tribal clash which is looming steadily in the area as a result of the existing disputes.
Nana Bofour made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kojo-Bofour at the weekend.
The chief alleged that Pemapem Yaw Kagbrese, Omanhene of Yeji and the President of the Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs has created divisions and disputes among some of the local chiefs within the paramountcy.
He alleged that the Omanhene of Yeji had illegitimately installed his own chiefs in some of the areas bedeviled with chieftaincy disputes and this had led to an uneasy calm in areas like Kadue and Konse which have two rival chiefs.
He also alleged that the Yeji Omanhene had also succeeded in installing a rival chief at Kojo-Bofour which has created tension among youth in the area.
Nana Bofour said he had sent the matter to the Judicial Committee of the Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs which mandated Pemapem Kagbrese to resolve it amicably but the Omanhene had failed to do so and he and other elders at Yeji were planning to outdoor the rival chief.
Nana Bofour said he had informed the District Security Council about the matter but no action had been taken.
He cautioned that if immediate steps are not taken to cancel the purported out-dooring ceremony expected to be held at Kojo-Bofour, it could lead to a bloody clash in the area.
Nana Bofour said without an independent body in place, the chieftaincy disputes in the area would remain unresolved.
