Winneba, Nov. 18, GNA - The Dean of Students Affairs of the University of Education, Winneba, Dr. Ernest Awanta, has called on constituency and ward leaders of political parties to form special disease control task forces to whip up HIV/AIDS awareness campaign in rural communities. He said such groups should collaborate with unit committees, area and town councils to make impact on the people. Dr Awanta said this in an interview with the GNA at Winneba on Tuesday during which he expressed concern about the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country.
He said the situation demanded active involvement of parents, churches, Muslim organisations, benevolent societies and even heads of government departments and industrial concerns. Dr Awanta underscored the need for parents and guardians to be bold to tell their teenage children and even those of their relatives and friends to abstain from pre-marital sex.
"This is the time parents should exhibit a real commitment to the well being of their children," he said. Dr Awanta appealed to musicians in the country to compose songs that could transform the nation morally and spiritually. He aid the nation needed songs that could turn the hearts and minds of the people, particularly the youth from sexual promiscuity and focus them on the acquisition of excellent moral qualities. 18 Nov 09
