A thanks-giving service and retreat have been held for Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) candidates of His Majesty SHS at Dansoman in Accra.

The retreat, attended by candidates, their parents, and community members, is being organized annually for BECE candidates.

In his welcome address, the director of the school, Mr.Evans Opoku Gyimah, said the purpose of the event was to seek the face of God for the candidates, and it also marked the end of another long period of revision.

He encouraged the candidates to learn extra hard so that they would pass the examinations with flying colours, adding, “if your good is not enough, and better is expected, then you can become the best”.

Mr.Gyimah was optimistic that the results of the examinations would be encouraging.

He thanked parents for their support and encouragement in bringing the children that far.

He said: “as a school we believe in giving back to society, and as a result of that, we have a scholarship scheme for needy but brilliant pupils who score grades between 6 and 12. “

Mrs. Gertrude A. Simpi Amuzu, Guest Speaker for the occasion, and the Greater-Accra Regional Girls Education Officer, said examinations were not wars to be fought, but assessment of students, to determine how well they were prepared to enter the next phase of life.

She advised the candidates to give excellent account of themselves, advising them not to cheat or engage in any form of malpractice, because the law existed to punish such candidates.

Mrs Amuzu gave the assurance that the Ghana Education Service was doing everything possible to ensure that this year's examination was incident-free.

Hardworking teachers and students who excelled in various academic contests in and outside the school, were awarded with certificates.
