Ho, Jan. 3, GNA - Mr Samuel Amedzoh, Assistant Director, Finance And Administration, of the Ho District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has urged the Ho District Assembly to sponsor more teacher trainees to fill vacancies in the remote areas of the district.
Mr Amedzoh who represented the District Director at a forum of stakeholders in the Administration of the district on Tuesday said 180 teachers were urgently needed for those areas this year. The Forum was jointly organised by the Ho District Assembly and the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV-ADIDO) an NGO. Mr Amedzoh said the district should also provide the required resources to the sponsored students on time to attract other qualified people.
He said the inability of some communities to clad school blocks provided for them, was undermining the smooth running of the schools, especially during the rainy season, adding that the use of kitchen stools in classrooms by some pupils did not promote effective teaching and learning.
In his reaction Mr Mawutor Goh, Ho District Chief Executive (DCE) said efforts of the District Assembly to build and rehabilitate education infrastructure might not be evident because of the large size of the district, with 850 towns.
He said building and rehabilitation of school blocks as well as sponsorship of students and other education related issues took 75 per cent of the Assembly's development budget.
Mr Goh conceded that a number of school blocks in the district badly needed rehabilitation and urged the various communities to support government to undertake such projects.
