Ho Co-operative drivers asked to observe decorum

Ho, April 26, GNA - The Ho Co-operative Drivers Association has been=

urged to observe decorum in managing their internal differences or risk having their Co-operative certificate withdrawn. Mr Emmanuel Andam, Volta Regional Co-operative Officer gave the warn= ing when he met members of the Association at the weekend, in an attempt to resolve a leadership impasse. Some members of the Association had petitioned the Department of Co-operatives in Accra over alleged prolonged stay in office of its Inter= im Management Committee (IMC).

Mr Andam said dialogue rather than the Courts or rowdy behaviour was=

the most acceptable approach to resolving internal differences within the=

Co-operative movement. He said the Co-operative movement is governed by rules and regulatio= ns to ensure accountability, good governance and democratic choice. Mr Andam said the IMC's accounts have been audited paving the way fo= r the election of new leaders. He therefore asked the IMC and the petitioners to select a representative each, to form a three-man committee, to be chaired by him (Andam) to prepare for the election.

Implement Collective Agreement- GNAT

Accra, April 26, GNA - The National Executive Committee of GNAT, on Monday, reminded the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES= ) of the "silence" over the non-implementation of the collective agreement by the Joint Negotiating Committee of the GNAT-NAGRAT and GES Management. A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mrs Irene Duncan-Adanusa, General Secretary of GNAT said "This agreement was signed as far back as December 2009 between employers, represented by Director-General, Ministe= r of Education and representatives of employees, namely GNAT and NAGRAT". The statement noted that, the employee side took up the initiative b= y preparing a road map for implementation of agreed items, which it present= ed to the employer and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) in February 2010. "We recall the under-listed expectations as per the road map attache= d- 15 per cent of gross monthly salary be paid as professional allowance to teachers with effect from January 2010, 10 per cent of gross monthly sala= ry as added incentive to teachers, who are trained and are teaching Mathematics, Science, ICT, Technical and Vocational subjects and 20 per c= ent of gross monthly salary for teachers working in deprived/underserved area= s of the country," the statement said. It noted that the signing of the agreement had to be preceded by threats of a strike action by GNAT; and the intervention of the National Labour Commission, brought the two parties back to the negotiating table,=

which eventually resulted in the signed agreement.

"We wish to reiterate that Ghanaian teachers cannot continue to surv= ive on promises, considering the mood of our members, it will be difficult, i= f not impossible to restrain them from taking any action to get what is due=

them once the deadline elapses without their demands having been met". "It is high time the country showed commitment to providing quality education by fulfilling our obligation to the professionals, who deliver the core education service," the statement added. 26 April 10
