Ho, July 4, GNA - Members of the Ho Municipal Assembly on Tuesday expressed misgivings about the approach to recruiting applicants under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in the municipality. They said information on recruitment was limited to only few privileged people.
This was said at a session of the assembly during which Madam Elizabeth Kakpor, Municipal Coordinator of the NYEP was summoned to answer questions including the mode of recruitment for the programme. The assembly members underscored the importance of the programme and said enrolment for the modules should be "open" for the programme to reflect its national character.
Mr Delali Nutsukpo, Assembly Member for Holuta, said the situation where people living in Ho were unaware of the enrolment exercise was unfortunate.
He said the situation tended to undermine the purpose for which the programme was instituted and asked the Municipal Directorate of the NYEP to operate fairly.
Madam Kakpor said advertisement for recruitment for the modules were normally done nationwide in the media in Accra. She said her outfit usually advertised the time and places of recruitment for the modules on local FM stations and that the activities of the office remained fair.
Madam Kakpor advised the assembly members and prospective beneficiaries of the programme to establish an official relationship with the office to be abreast with its operation. Mr Mawutor Goh, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, told the assembly that work on the Jubilee projects was still in progress and that the assembly was also taking steps to complete all HIPC projects in the municipality.
