Ho, Aug. 30, GNA- The Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management Department of the Ho Polytechnic has been urged to establish a production unit, to popularise the six "convenient" food recipes developed by the Department.
Reverend Father (Dr) Lawrence Akli, Chaplain of the Polytechnic made the suggestion at a food fare organised by the department last Friday to introduce the recipes to the public. He said the development of the recipes was a major achievement given the fast changing tastes globally characterised by "exquisite culinary inventions".
The six food recipes packaged in powdered forms, are Dzenkple or Apapransa powder, Snail powder, Water Yam Flour, Grape Fruit Wine, Tropical Dried Fruits, Herbal Tea and Korkli Chunks. Mrs Judith Tampore, Head of the Department, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Ho that the recipes have been perfected over a three year period to have a shelf's life of six months at normal room temperature.
She said, having achieved this, the department will now launch a vigorous campaign to win the collaboration of food based industries such as Unilever Ghana Limited, Nestle Ghana Limited, Nkulenu Industries and Small Scales Food Manufacturing Companies to adopt the recipes for large scale production and for domestic and foreign markets.
Mrs Tampore said the recipes, were developed with an aim of reducing cooking time especially by working women "in this era when time and advancement are of prime importance".
She said the recipes were also in tune with the government's policy of encouraging consumption of locally made food items.
