Ho Rotary Club establishes Rotary Community Corps

The Ho Rotary Club has established a Rotary Community Corps (RCC) in Keklebesi a farming community in the Volta Region to speed up economic and community development in the area.

The Keklebesi RCC plans to go into the cultivation of tomatoes, pig rearing, organizing of clean up campaigns, and also to assist the primary school by providing furniture for the KeKlebesi Community School.

A Rotary Community Corps (RCC) is a team of non-Rotarian men and women who are committed to their community’s long-term development and self-sufficiency.

An RCC is sponsored by a Rotary club and, like Rotaract and Interact clubs; it’s one of Rotary’s partners in service.

To ensure that the RCC meets its objectives, the Rotary Club of Ho has appointed a Rotary Community Corps Committee (RCCC), chaired by Mr Joseph Dzamesi, the Headmaster of Sonrise Senior High School to oversee the mentoring of Keklebesi Rotary Community Corps (KRCC).

The President of the Rotary Club of Ho, Mr Rockson Dogbegah, at the organizational meeting, charged the committee to visit the KRCC at least once a month with other Rotarians and organize capacity building programmes for the members to enhance service delivery and other related areas.

He said the main principle of the programme is to enable the RCC members to personally address and solve problems in the area where they work or live.

“Sponsoring an RCC is a great way to initiate and implement enduring service projects,” adding that, the RCCs carry out creative and sustainable solutions to address a wide array of community issues, such as lack of safe water, hunger, pollution, illiteracy, and inadequate housing.

“An RCC works with its sponsoring Rotary club to consult with the local community, identify needs, and plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate a service project,” Mr Dogbegah added.

Past Assistant Governor, Theo Sowah, commended the leadership of the Rotary Club of Ho for the dynamism introduced into the club and promised to help raise the needed capital for the KRCC project.

The Chairman of Keklebesi Rotary Community Corps, Mr John Agbodzinu, was very thankful to the Rotary Club of Ho for the initiative and pledged his full support to making the project successful.

The four main objectives of Rotary Community Corps is to encourage individuals to take responsibility for the improvement of their village, neighborhood, or community, recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations, to mobilize self-help activities, work to improve the quality of life and to encourage the development of human potential to its fullest, within the context of the local culture and community.
