Hohoe, May 17, GNA - The Hohoe District Assembly has earmarked four billion cedis towards the construction of pavements at the Hohoe Main Lorry Park, Mr John-Peter Amewu, the District Chief Executive, has said.

Addressing the assembly at Hohoe on Tuesday Mr Amewu said the district assembly was liasing with the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment to seek assistance in getting financiers to fund the project.

He said contracts have already been awarded for the construction of a two three-unit junior secondary school blocks, office and store at Akpafu-Mempeasem and Tafi Mador worth 331 million cedis and 349 million cedis respectively under the Community-Based Rural Development Programme (CBRDP).

Mr Amewu said over one billion cedis was received as the district's allocation of its District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for the last quarter of 2005 and the assembly was expecting the first quarter allocation of its annual DACF share of 5.1 billion cedis for 2006. He said the assembly has allotted 288 million cedis towards the re-evaluation of all landed and valuable properties in the district. This would enable the assembly to update its records and ensure that assessment of property rates conform to the current value of such properties.

Mr Amewu said a task force comprising officials of the District Assembly and the Department of Town and Country Planning was to clampdown on unauthorized structures in the district beginning from Hohoe.
