Homogeneous festival to become flagship event

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts is to make the Homogeneous Festival dubbed: “Homofest”, one of the flagship events for the celebration of culture and exhibition of creative talents in the country.

Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said this at the climax of a week-long celebration of Homofest 2015 on the theme: “Unity and Development” in Accra.

He said when the festival became a flagship event it would culminate into job creation, income generation thereby impacting positively on the socio-economic lives of the people of Ga-Dangbes in particular and Ghanaians as a whole.

The Homofest 2015, in its second edition was instituted last year by the Ministry of Tourism Culture and Creative Arts as part of measures to promote domestic tourism.

It is also aimed at fostering unity among the Ga-Dangbes, in addition to creating awareness among the indigenes, while promoting their food, dance and music.

The festival is also part of the Ministry's 'Explore Ghana' project, which has the sole objective of promoting Domestic tourism.

The Minster said there are enormous benefits to be derived from tourism, culture and creative arts and therefore, called on all to cherish and jealously guard and protect the tourism potentials.

She said the country’s culture was showcase in the recent hosting of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s conference on branding, which received great commendation.

She, therefore, appealed to chiefs and other stakeholders to endeavour to sustain the celebration of the Homofest.

Nii Afotey Agbo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister said there is an urgent need to resolve all chieftaincy disputes in the region to enhance peace and unity.

He called on the traditional authorities to unite for peace and development of the various communities and the country as a whole.

The Regional Minister commended the Minister of Tourism and staff of the Ministry for their efforts to promote tourism through culture and creative arts.
