Sunyani (B/A), July 20, GNA – Some Christian leaders in Brong-Ahafo have warned that the Bible categorically condemns homosexuality and lesbianism and such sinful practices must not be allowed to infiltrate and adulterate Ghana’s glowing culture,
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a random interview section, the respondents said if immediate measures were not taken to halt “such evil practices” in Ghana; it would gain grounds and spell doom for the nation.
The ministers of God observed that even though the clergy had already publicly spoken against homosexuality and lesbianism, it behoved all level-headed Ghanaians at home and abroad to help crush the emerging obnoxious and devilish practices in the country.
They exhorted Christian and non-Christian mothers to play an active role in the fight against such “strange sexual lusts” by imbibing in their children basic Biblical principles.
Pastor Yaw Osei Owusu, Regional Overseer of Deeper Life Bible Church affirmed that even though Ghana could lose some international assistance from its development partners who supported homosexuality, it could be better for the nation to renounce such practices than to allow them to grow and “spell doom for the nation as happened to Sodom and Gomorrah in the Bible”.
“The New and Old Testaments testify against homosexuality and if Ghana wants to escape the wrath of God here on earth and hereafter then the practices must be nipped in the bud”, he warned.
Pastor Owusu stated that poverty was one of the contributory factors that lured the youth into such abominable practices that had adulterated Ghana’s culture.
Pastor Owusu advised politicians to come out with pragmatic policies that could address the current unemployment problem and attendant consequences on the living conditions of the youth.
“In Cape Coast, capital of the Central Region for instance, most of the youth are lured into this inhumane and abominable sin because of unemployment and poverty,” Pastor Owusu said.
Pastor Daniel Oduro-Sarpong, President of Mid-West Ghana Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, said it was the responsibility of the church to preach strongly against the practices.
He said since homosexuality was a foreign culture and had grievous health repercussions, most Ghanaians lured into such practices were ignorant that the Bible spoke against them and advised the clergy and other religious groupings to speak boldly about it.
Pastor Oduro-Mensah stated: “If an individual chooses to engage in such devilish practices God’s punishment will fall on that person alone, but if the practice is legalized then the whole country will suffer doom”.
He said the upsurge of all these sinful pleasures in the midst of the proliferation of churches was in fulfilment of the biblical prophecy about the end time and exhorted Christians to remain strong in their faiths.
Pastor Oduro-Mensah observed that people engaged in homosexuality and lesbianism were, “under the influence of demons that have nothing good to offer humanity”.
“What they will do to you is to help you to acquire riches and power but all are vanity that will definitely lead you to eternal condemnation”, he added.
Pastor Oduro-Mensah advised the youth to lead healthy lifestyles and to channel their exuberance into useful ventures to obtain God’s blessings.
Pastor Roger Ohene Frimpong, Regional Pastor of Calvary Charismatic Church, stated that God frowned on homosexuality and lesbianism and called on the government to vehemently oppose such shameful practices.
“If we don’t appreciate the blessings, peace and the tranquillity God has showered on us as Ghanaians, and allow our politicians to use the name of democracy and human rights to make this demonic practices gain grounds in this contemporary society, then we should get prepared to face the anger of God,” he said.
Pastor Frimpong stressed that “even though God is so merciful, if his children do not obey Him and go contrary to His word, He will also not hesitate to punish them”.
He reiterated that though Ghana was governed by democratic principles, “we should not sit down aloof and watch the few individuals to capitalize on the fundamental human rights enshrined in our constitution to adopt these demonic cultures to bring God’s judgment on us all”.
Reverend Kwame Poku, Sunyani District Pastor of Born Again Believers Ministry, warned that Ghana should get prepared to experience famine, war, outbreak of untreatable diseases, among others, “if we do not take immediate steps to stop these demonic practices”.
He called on the legislature to as a matter of urgency pass a law that would not only ban the practices but also punish those engaged in them in the country.
Raphael Godlove Ahenu, a final year student of Sunyani branch of Faith University, a theological Seminary in United States of America observed that if the abominable practices were not checked, it would not only adulterate Ghana’s culture, but also lead to the rapid spread of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
“In the beginning God in His own wisdom created man and woman to be fruitful and multiply but not man and man,” Mr Ahenu stated, stressing that “homosexuals and lesbians can never escape God’s judgment”.
