Hospitals in Ho empty of patients

The usually busy activities at public and private hospitals in the Volta Regional capital Ho on Friday slumped following the ongoing strike by medical doctors.

Some facilities were virtually empty with health workers discussing the industrial action and government’s position on the issue.

There were only a handful of patients being processed at the OPD for medical attention when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Ho Municipal Hospital at about 1015 hours on Friday.

The OPD at the Ho Polyclinic was empty.

Mr Samuel Adjei, Administrator of the Polyclinic said though physician assistants were at post, there were no patients and blamed the situation on news reports that doctors were on strike, which the public mistook to mean the facilities were not working.

The situation was not different from Miracle Life Clinic and Foresight Hospital, both private health facilities, which were also virtually empty.

A medical doctor who sought anonymity told the GNA that the situation was worrying and could cause complications in health conditions of some patients.

He said the situation could promote self medication and expressed the hope that the impasse would be resolved soon.
