The newly appointed acting Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr. Jacob Kor has advised public sector workers to humble themselves yet remain principled in the discharge of their duties.

The Central Regional Director of Education (RDE), who was elevated barely a week ago, stressed the essence of a combination of the two values, adding that, his appointment was an indication that he should continue to be humble in his service to mankind.

He gave the advice at a send-off party held in Cape Coast on Friday to honour Mr. Kofi Sarfo Kantanka, former RDE, Mr. Augustus Nii Lante Cleland, a former acting RDE and some retiring staff of the service.

Mr. Kantanka, currently the RDE of the Ashanti Region, was the Central RDE from 2010 to 2013, while Mr. Cleland, acted for a few months before becoming the RDE of the Western Region.

The event brought together GES Staff and related associations, representatives from other Government ministries, agencies and departments, as well as family of the personalities who were honoured.

Mr. Kor recounted instances during which the exhibition of the two values had resulted in great achievements and advised that “if you don’t know where you are going, remember where you are coming from.”

He expressed gratitude to the various metropolitan, municipal and district education directorates for their support, and called for more support to enable him discharge the duties of his new office efficiently.

The Twifo Atti Morkwa District Director of Education, who represented Mr. Kantanka, relayed his “heart-felt appreciation” to the directorate for recognizing his efforts and honouring him.

Mr. Cleland also expressed his gratitude, congratulated retired staff and urged those nearing their retirement to prepare well in order to avoid unnecessary stress during retirement.

The two former RDEs and the retiring staffs were presented with citations and parcels.

The citations described the former directors as principled, dedicated, humble and hardworking individuals, who contributed immensely to the maintenance of the standard of education in the region, while the retiring staff were praised for their devotion and long service.
