Bolgatanga, June 28, GNA - Hundreds of unemployed youth in the Upper East Region who are in search of jobs, on Monday thronged the Sacred Heart Social Centre for recruitment into the Ghana Prisons Service (GPS).

Comprising mainly senior secondary school, vocational and technical school leavers, these hustling young men and women appeared less concerned about the fact that only 20 vacancies had been allocated to the Upper East, out of about 250 vacancies available nationwide. Some of them had arrived at the centre as early as 0530 hours with brown envelopes containing results slips and other reference documents, and showed signs of restlessness as they waited in long queues to be called in for the interview.

DSP Fiifi Dontoh, one of the recruiting officers told the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga that those choosing to do general duties were required to have four SSS passes including English language, while those opting for the trades such as tailoring, plumbing, electrical, steel bending and auto mechanics among others, would need NVTI or City and Guilds certificates to qualify.
