The University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (USTED) has hosted its maiden International Conference on Education and Humanities, bringing together leading minds in the education sector from across the globe.

The three-day event, which commenced on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, is being held under the theme “Building Sustainable Futures: The Role of Education, Humanities and TVET.”

It was organised by the Faculty of Education and Communication Sciences.

Convener of the conference and Dean of the Faculty of Education and Communication Sciences, Professor Faith Ben-Daniels, revealed that stakeholders from dozens of African countries converged for the event.

She said the focus is to develop policies that provide practical solutions to everyday problems.

“Here we are exploring ways to bridge the gap between TVET and the humanities, where problems will be solved practically,” Professor Ben-Daniels stated.

She added that all ideas and policies shared at the conference will be collated and published for public use.

Keynote Speaker, renowned educationist and Founder of the Gifted and Talented Education Institute, Anis Haffar, underscored the need to prioritize skills training.

He called on government and educators to shift focus from theory to TVET education, stressing that quality skills training for the youth is the best way to develop the country.
