Begoro (E/R), March 18, GNA - Mr Kwadwo Appiah-Kubi Jnr., National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Offinso North, has expressed confidence about his chances of winning the parliamentary seat of the area in the December polls.
He said evidence on the ground showed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has become "very unpopular with people in the constituency and would only be wasting energy and resources fighting for the seat". Mr Appiah-Kubi Jnr was addressing a group of young men from Akomadan who have migrated to the Fanteakwa district in the Eastern region to engage in tomato farming at Begoro.
They said climatic conditions at Begoro were more favourable for tomato growing hence their re-location.
The NDC parliamentary candidate noted that people who supported the NPP to victory in the 2000 elections in the area had become disillusioned and disappointed as "the political sweet talks used to hypnotise them and the big promises remained unfulfilled".
Mr Appiah-Kubi pointed out that the Offinso North has not had its fair share of development and blamed this on ineffective leadership. "I am not going to promise you heaven but I have no doubt in my mind that I can provide the right leadership to change the face of the constituency and give quality transformation to the lives of the people".
He wondered why there should be for example, big dreams about building a tomato factory at Akomadan when a dam constructed to irrigate 1,200 acres of land for the cultivation of the vegetable was non-operational.
He said priority should rather go into de-silting the dam and the installation of pumping machines to enable the farmers engage in tomato production all year round.
Mr Appiah-Kubi advised the group to return to Akomadan to register so as to qualify to vote in the December elections.
