The District Chief Executive for Atiwa in the Eastern Region has dismissed reports that he collapsed while reading his speech at this year's Independence Day parade.

Emmanuel Atta Twum told Joy News he felt weak suddenly while delivering his address and handed over the speech to the District Education Director to continue.

Mr. Atta Twum was reported to have collapsed while reading his speech on Independence Day at the Kwabeng Presby Park and was rushed to an unknown destination for medical care.

However, he has denied the report insisting he is as fit as a fiddle.

The DCE admitted he stopped reading his speech half-way through but did not faint.

"I didn't collapse. I rather felt weak and thought that I should let my education director read my speech so it came as a surprise to me that it was on air that I collapsed. It is total lies and fabrication. If I had collapsed I would have been taken to the hospital but that wasn't the situation. I was in the house taking my rest,” he explained.

Mr. Atta Twum also rubbished claims that his constituency executives have called for his dismissal due to his constant dizzy spells at public functions.

According to him he personally facilitated the organization of the executive committee meeting which purportedly took the decision and at no point did they discuss issues relating to him or his health.

Mr Twum made these claims despite a petition by executives of Atiwa West and East constituencies to the government to dismiss him or compel him to take a sick leave.

He has blamed the story on deliberate efforts by hidden faces to make him unpopular.

Last Sunday's incident happens to be the fourth time the DCE has reportedly lost his stamina during a state function.

He was reported to have fallen in the conference hall of the eastern regional minister's residence when responding to accusations of neglect by his constituency officials.

Mr. Atta Twum allegedly fell unconscious during last year's Farmer’s Day celebration in Akyem-Akropong.

During an annual harvest last year at the Abomosu Presby Church the DCE reportedly collapsed.
