A resident of Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region, Kojo Adjei says his life and that of his family are in danger after the Techiman Police failed to protect his identity after he had helped to arrest two armed robbers in the Techiman town.
According to him, if such failures on the part of the police continue, it would be very difficult for residents to report crime because at the end of the day their identity would not be hidden.
Mr Adjei visited the office of The Finder in Sunyani to register his displeasure about the attitude of the Techiman Police.
He said the two robbers he helped to arrest are currently walking on the streets of Techiman freely and have even gone ahead to threaten his friend who assisted him to arrest them.
“About five months ago, I was at the workplace when I heard that a man was shouting that he is being attacked by armed robbers. With two of my friends, we chased them and apprehended them and handed them over to the police.
“Five months after I had sent the case to the police, they never called me to find out about the incident. As I speak to you, they have granted these robbers bail,” he revealed.
Mr Osei noted that he is currently living in fear and is worried he and his family could be attacked at any time. He, therefore, called on the Inspector General Police, Mohammed Alhassan, to do something about the situation.
He revealed that if the police do not change their attitude, the crime rate in Techiman would increase because people would not be willing to give the police tip-offs on criminals.
Mr Osei said fighting crime is a collective responsibility between the citizenry and the police.
All efforts to reach the police for comment proved futile.
