The Chief Executive for the West Gonja Municipal Assembly, Mr Saeed Jibril Muhazu has appealed to the people of the West Gonja Municipality to adhere to the directives of the President Nana Akufo- Addo towards the prevention and protection against the Corvid-19 pandemic that is fast spreading into the Savannah Region.

Mr Muhazu in an interview with Bole based Nkilgi FM on 16th June, 2020 confirmed the sudden increase on the number of cases from 1 to 34 in the Savannah Region as at 16th June, 2020.

He said an emergency Municipal Security meeting is expected to be held which he will empower the security services to arrest and prosecute any person found without a nose mask.

He said strict measures will be put on the various mosques and churches in the region to ensure the full compliance of the directives and further urged persons to be mindful of social gatherings such as the attendance of weddings and funeral ceremonies since those places are major spots of contracting coronavirus.

He said if it was news to the people of the Municipality about the virus, it is now very close and near since the number of cases recorded in the East and Central Gonja districts of the region is very alarming.

Meanwhile, the West Gonja Municipal Assembly led by the MCE is to embark on a free distribution of over 2000 nose masks to residents of the municipality.

The Assembly has engaged the services of tailors and dressmakers to produce the nose masks by providing them with the materials needed for the production of the masks.

Mr Muhazu popularly known as Jegede disclosed that the distribution will be done through the assembly persons of the various electoral areas areas who will identify especially the vulnerable in the society as the beneficiaries of the nose masks.

The assembly has so far distributed Veronica buckets, hand sanitisers, Soaps and also placed water tanks at the various lorry loading stations across the municipality since the outbreak of the Corvid-19 pandemic.

The assembly has also on a number times donated some Personal Protective Equipments to the Municipal Health Directorate including some number infrared thermometer guns the directorate.
