IDEG workshop to promote civil society-govt collaboration ends

Takoradi, Aug. 27, GNA- A two-day workshop organised by the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) to promote effective collaboration between civil society and government to enhance economic growth and good governance ended at Takoradi on Saturday.

The 50 participants who attended the workshop were from Nzema East, Mpohor-Wassa East and the Shama-Ahanta East, the three pilot districts, as well as private and public institutions in the Western Region. The three districts are among 22 other districts selected from the Western, Central, Volta, Eastern and Greater Accra regions for a pilot project aimed at sensitising the civil society and identifying peculiar problems facing the people and finding sustainable corrective measures to enhance growth.

Dr. Lee Tlou, a Research Fellow at IDEG told Newsmen that the long-term objective of the project was to enable various communities to create permanent platforms where pertinent issues that confronted them would be discussed.

She said these avenues would help to address unemployment among the youth and promote economic growth, health service delivery, poverty reduction and good governance.

Dr. Tlou said the platforms would also sought to fill the gap between civil society and public institutions in addressing problems facing communities through dialogue meetings.

"Lobbying and advocacy techniques," "understanding youth unemployment from policy perspective" and "moving from deliberation to action through dialogue meetings" were among topics discussed by participants.
