A 30-year-old policewoman who was shot dead by suspected armed robbers in the Salerigu Municipality of the Northern Region, Corporal Agartha Nana Nabin, was on Friday, 23 August 2019 given a posthumous promotion to the rank of Police Sergeant.
The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr James Oppong Bonuah promoted the murdered officer in recognition of her act of bravery, commitment and dedication to duty.
Sergeant Nabin was shot on Tuesday, 30 July 2019 at a checkpoint near a fuel station in the Salerigu municipality while on duty with two other officers.
According to eyewitnesses, the robbers were wearing face masks.
Apart from the posthumous promotion, the IGP announced a GHS 10,000 bounty on the heads of the killers of the police officer.
He stated: “Yesterday, I dispatched a powerful team; we have instituted a reward of GHS10,000 for anybody who gives us credible information leading to the arrest of these cowards.”
Sergeant Nabin will be buried on Saturday, 24 August in Tamale.
