Tinkong (E/R), Dec. 29, GNA - An Information Technology and Communication (ITC) centre for the Tinkong Local Authority (L/A) Junior Secondary School (JSS) provided by the Tinkongman Fekuw, a development Society, was inaugurated on Friday at Tinkong, a farming community, near Koforidua.

The society also sponsored a teacher of the school for training in ITC to enable him to train pupils of the school in information technology.

Speaking to journalists after the inauguration, Mawerehene of Larteh, Nana Kwame Toprah I, a patron of the society, said it was the desire of the association that the best IT student in the Akuapem Area should come from Tinkong.

He called on the community to support the programme as well as other projects to facilitate teaching and learning at the school. Nana Toprah said this year the society had paid about six million cedis to cover the three-year education of a girl from the school who gained admission to the Benkum Secondary School.

He said the society would sponsor the beneficiary to further her education after the secondary level.

Nana Toprah also hinted that the society had plans to establish relationship between a high school in Britain and the Tinkong L/A to support the school's development.

The Lartehhene, Nana Asiedu Okoo, called on the people of Tinkong to raise funds to maintain the computers at the ITC centre.

He urged members of the Tinkong Fekuw to explore avenues of employment for the youth through the promotion of income-generation projects such as beekeeping and grasscutter rearing in the area. The Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Supervision at the Akuapem North District Directorate of Education, Mr C.K Adentwi, called on the Tinkong Fekuw to make efforts to reverse the fallen standards of education in the area.
