The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for La Dade Kotopon, Mr Solomon Kotei Nikoi has called on public servants to make impacting lives of their people, a priority.
Speaking after receiving an award for the ‘Most Impactful MCE in Community Development across Africa’ at the third edition of the African Public Service Optimum Awards (APSO) held in Accra on Wednesday, he said, touching the lives of the people was vital and must be the focus of public servants.
“It is important to touch the lives of your people and that has always been my focus since assuming office. This has been recognised by the global world and other MCEs must take a cue from it,” he stated.
Mr Nikoi who has been active in the transformation of his municipality since assuming office, received a trophy and citation for his efforts.
His citation reads, “This award is in recognition of your exemplary performance as a public servant whose excellent contributions to the practice of good corporate governance in your organization and to the overall socio-economic development of Africa are commendable.”
The APSO Awards was introduced by the internationally acclaimed Business Executive Group with the ultimate aim of identifying and publicly recognising exemplary performance by public servants and public institutions across Africa.
This year’s event was held under the theme, “Transforming Africa through Public Service Professionalism and Excellence.”
The MCE expressed appreciation to organizers, and the Business Executives for the honor adding that it was refreshing to know that his hard work has been acknowledged on the continent.
“This tells me that I am being watched so I would go all out. My vision remains to touch lives so I urge other MCEs to work hard in that aspect and be recognized,” he stated.
He praised his team for their dedication and support adding that “teamwork was very instrumental in my success.”
He disclosed that the La Dadekotopon Municipality was ranked 68th when he took office in 2016 but owing to their hard work, they are currently the best in Ghana.
Going forward, he said they would engage in participatory development, with institutions coming on board to assist the municipality.
Other awardees included the Minister for Transport Mr. Kweku Ofori Asiamah for Most Outstanding Innovation in Infrastructure Development, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Ambulance Service, Prof. Ahmed Nuhu Zakariah who received the Lifetime Achievement in Medical Assistance and Emergency Service award, and the President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana(NALAG), Mr. Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeng who received the award for the Overall Best Association in Local Governance across Africa.
In his speech, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Maher Kheir congratulated the winners for their efforts adding that public servants have a huge role to play in the transformation of countries globally.
He urged them to be professional, transparent and focused on making their countries prosper through their services.
