'Implement reforms directed by the Supreme Court'

The Anglican Diocese of Kumasi has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to hasten with the implementation of the electoral reforms recommended by the Supreme Court.

It also wants the government and all the political parties to work together to strengthen the country’s democratic structures.

A communiqué issued at the end of its 17th synod and signed by the Most Reverend Professor Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo, Primate and Metropolitan Archbishop of the Church’s Province of West Africa, said this was the path to travel to sustain the growth of the country’s democracy, promote the rule of law and to ensure justice.

The church further underlined the need for stronger partnership between the state and the religious bodies to raise the standard of education.

They need to overcome every obstacle and forge ahead in their shared vision of improving the quality of education.

The communiqué again encouraged the people to adopt healthy lifestyles to avoid diseases.

It urged Ghanaians to pay particular attention to personal hygiene and environmental sanitation to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.

On the deadly viral haemorrhagic Ebola fever, which has hit some countries in the West Africa sub-region and causing global anxiety, it asked Ghanaians to take precautionary measures.

The church expressed concern about corruption and financial malpractices, pervasive in every sector of the society and called on the people to come together to fight the evil.

It encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and to continue to pray for the nation’s peace and prosperity.
