Apam (C/R), May 25, GNA - Nana Kwabena Caiquo, Apofohen of Apam in the Gomoa District of the Central Region, has stressed the need to increase the weekly allocation of pre-mix fuel for the area from 3,000 to 9,000 gallon to ensure enough stock of the product for the major fishing season.

He noted that, "Even the weekly allocation of 3,000 gallons has not been regular, compelling fishermen to rely on middlemen at an exorbitant cost".

Nana Caiquo told the GNA that the weekly allocation of the fuel should be increased in view of the increasing number of fishing boats and emergency landings by fishermen from Prampram, Chokor, Kokrobitey, Bortinano, Biriwa, Moree and Shama, who also relied on the same supply. The Chief Fisherman commended the Minister of Fisheries, Mrs Gladys Asmah and the MP for the area, Mr Joe K. Hackman, for their assistance to the industry through the supply of inputs. He also expressed appreciation to the local Pre-Mix Committee led by the Assembly Member for the Area for their support. 25 May 06
