The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Bosiako Sekyere, has called on parents to inculcate into their children the importance of living in a clean environment at all times.
"Our children need to grow up to make cleanliness and sanitation exercise a part of them; this will ensure that we always live in a clean environment," he said.
Mr Antwi-Boasiako made the call when he joined the people of Asesewa in the Upper Manya Krobo District at this month's regional Sanitation Day exercise.
The people came out in their numbers to take part in the exercise even though there was little work for them to do because the communities in the district were already clean.
The residents largely resorted to weeding and filling of potholes on the streets and at the lorry station as there was virtually no filth in the surroundings.
When the Regional Minister and his entourage arrived at the district capital, the residents were already halfway through the sanitation exercise.
They had been up before 0500 hours and started the clean up exercise before Mr Antwi-Bosiako arrived some few minutes after 0700 hours.
The Regional Minister was led by Mr Jeff Kevianu, the Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo and Mr Joseph Tetteh Angmor, the District Chief Executive to inspect the exercise in the area.
Mr Antwi-Bosiako expressed his appreciation about the residents' high commitment and urged them to keep up that spirit for the betterment of the country.
He assured them of the government's plans to bring more development to the Upper Manya Krobo, including the rehabilitation of the roads in the area.
The DCE on behalf of the Assembly used the clean up exercise to present a motor bike to the district office of the National Commission for Civic Education to help step up its civic education function.
