Contingents of the security services, students, schoolchildren and voluntary organizations took part in an impressive parade at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani.

A total of 1,946 school children and students of primary, Junior and Senior High Schools and 316 teachers participated. The voluntary organizations included the Association of Garages, Hairdressers and Beauticians Association, truck pushers and other artisans.

The parade was under the command of Captain Isaac Asare of 3 BN of the Liberation Barracks in Sunyani. Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, took the salute and read President Kufuor's speech at the Independence Square in Accra.

Also present on the dais were Nana Abraham Kwadwo Kwakye, Deputy Regional Minister and heads of security services and departments. A large number of residents trooped to the Park early in the morning to witness the historic occasion. In the march past, Twene Amanfo Senior High School emerged first, followed by Sunyani Senior High School whilst Odumaseman Senior High School took the third position. Saint James took the first position in the Junior High School category and was followed by Ebenezer Presbyterian Preparatory School whilst Sacred Heart Junior High School took the third position. Ebenezer Presby emerged first at the primary level, followed by St James and Ridge Experimental. The schools were presented with certificates and wall clock as their prize.
