Indiscipline destroying country - Pastor

Takoradi, July 8, GNA - Pastor Emmanuel Bougyegu Imbrah, Vice-President of the South West Ghana Conference (SWGC) of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church, on Thursday said indiscipline is destroying the country's cherished values.

He was speaking at the Open Day of the SDA Basic School in Takoradi, under the theme "Bringing Sound Christian Education to the Doorsteps of the Ghanaian Child".

Pastor Imprah said, "Indiscipline is a cancerous culture as it is destroying the nation and could be found at every corner of the society."

He said students now were not studying hard because they could lay hands on papers and cheat in examinations.

Pastor Imbrah said, "if students who are the future leaders start behaving this way, the future of country would be bleak and indiscipline would rage like wild fire".

He described the school as "the window of hope for the country" and urged teachers to be firm, strict and hardworking to instil discipline in children.

Nana Kwabena Osei Nketia, Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Director of Education, said without good moral training, skills and knowledge acquired by children would be useless and would turn many children into what he called "skilled criminals".

He said it was the collective responsibility of the school, the Church and parents to train children whose activities should be supervised to protect them from society and peer pressure.

Nana Nketia stressed the need to educate children on the negative influence of the Internet, saying that, "even though a useful tool is not been well utilised for constructive purposes by children". He advised teachers to create an environment devoid of antagonism to enable them mould the character of children.
