Induction course for 62 assembly members ends

Winneba, Dec. 15, GNA - Sixty-Two members of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly have ended a three-day intensive induction course at Winneba.

Resource persons from the Ghana Institute of Local Government, Accra, took the assemblymen and assemblywomen through topics relevant to the functions they were expected to discharge during their four-year term.

Closing the course, Joseph Ronald Quainoo, Assemblyman for Kojo Beedu North/Low Cost/Winneba Junction and Ansaful Electoral area, who stood in for the Presiding Member, Mr Alex Markin, expressed his appreciation to the government for organizing the training and assured that members of the House would put the knowledge acquired to good use. Mr Quainoo suggested periodic orientation for assembly members throughout the country to propel them for greater achievements in their respective electoral areas and districts.

Mr E Ashalley Djan, Deputy District Co-ordinating Director and HIV/AIDS Focal Person for the district charged members to involve themselves actively in the campaign against the disease. Mr Ashalley told the assembly members that the problem required the collective participation of all that was why government had been calling on all and sundry to contribute their quota towards it. They should also make environmental sanitation and health insurance policies their priority and educate the people on them.
