The Ashanti Regional Deputy Police Commander who doubles as Chairman for the Regional Road Safety Committee (NRSC) ACP Ampofo-Duku has entreated political parties in the country to instil discipline in their members to avoid road accidents.

According to him, several lives are lost during electioneering years due to reckless driving.

He recalled that in 2004, 608 lives were lost through road accidents whereas 268 and 306 people died in 2008 and 2012 respectively.

The Deputy Police Commander lamented that these loses deprive a nation of her human resources, blaming the menace on misconduct of people exhibited during election seasons.

Ultimate news’ Solomon Appiah-Kubi reports that political parties were admonished to partner with officials of NSRC to educate their supporters on road safety.

Speaking during a workshop organized by NSRC for political parties, he also assured the public of the police force’s supervision and security to salvage the menace.

On his part, the Regional Manager for the NRSC, Engineer Samuel Asiamah indicated that about twelve thousand (12,000) crashes are recorded whereas about fourteen thousand (14,000) are involved in several injuries annually.

He charged youth organizers of various political parties to ensure that youthful exuberance is not encouraged before, during and after the general elections.
