Interior Minister, Mr. Prosper Douglas Bani, has praised the Command of the Ghana National Fire Service for the many innovations introduced into the operations of the Service.

Hon. Bani said this at the graduation Parade of Cadet Intake XIII of the Fire Service at the Fire Academy and Training School at James-Town in Accra at the weekend.

He said that many chief fire officers have come and gone but the present Chief Fire Officer, Dr. Albert Brown Gaisie, supported by the Fire Service Council, deserves mentioning and commendation.

Mr. Bani said the response time of the Service has been remarkably speedy and hoped that the massive logistical support from government to the Service will aid the officer cadets to give off their best to the Fire Service.

The interior minister added that the Fire Service has come so far that today, the Service has built enough capacity to train her personnel locally compared to the past when officers had to be trained outside the country and, therefore urged the graduands to be proud to part of such a progressive institution.

Mr. Bani said reports reaching his office indicate that officers sent outside the country to participate in international conferences, courses, and competitions have excelled and have played their part in the growth of the service.

He singled out the Home Fire Safety (DUMGYA) Project of the Service as being laudable as it is going to help reduce fires in domestic homes which has in recent times resulted in the death of many lives.

He added that this is a very good initiative and thanked the Command of the Service for creating the enabling atmosphere for the private sector to partner the Service to roll out this project.

He also urged other private sector players to come on board and collaborate with the Command of the Service so that “we can see a more effective Fire Service.”

The interior minister promised government’s commitment to provide personal protective clothing for the protection and safety for fire-fighters.

He added that this commitment was seen in the cutting of the sod recently at Duayaw Nkwanta in the Brong-Ahafo Region for the construction of an ultra-modern Fire Academy and Training School.

In all, one hundred and six (106) officer cadets graduated and were duly commissioned.
