Involve BRRI in the national housing scheme

Kumasi, March 12, GNA - An appeal has been made to the government to consider involving the Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in its mass housing scheme for workers in the country.

Mr James Ofri-Atuahene, Marketing Officer of the BRRI, who made the appeal, said involvement of the institute in the scheme would help reduce cost of buildings since the BRRI normally use local materials for its housing developments. He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Kumasi on Thursday. He said the use of local materials like burnt bricks would also enable the BRRI to create job opportunities for people in the local communities, as well as the numerous idling artisans.

Mr Ofri-Atuahene regretted that even though the BRRI had the relevant expertise and equipment and boast of quality work, its services are under-utilised by the government, organisations and individuals. He said the institute was zealous to go commercial but its ability to make such a dream a reality depends on the patronage of its services by the public, corporate bodies and the government.
