Konongo (Ash), Jan 8, GNA - Chiefs and Queen Mothers in the Asante-Akim North district have expressed their resentment at not being involved in decisions of the district assembly.
They have therefore, called on the assembly to involve them in decisions of the assembly to empower them to have a greater say on issues that affect their communities.
This sentiment was conveyed to the district assembly by Nana Anarfi Kokorto, Hwidiemhene, during a meeting with the District Chief Executive, Mr George Frempong and the political leadership in the district on behalf of chiefs and Queen Mothers in the district at Konongo.
The meeting was aimed at deliberating on issues that affected the development of the district and how best to solve them. Nana Anarfi Kokortor also asked the assembly to renovate the Konongohene's palace in the district capital and develop the tourist attractions in the district, including the Hwidiem Waterfall. Nana Frimpong Afoakwa I, Domeabrahene, entreated the government to motivate the youth to stay in the villages through the granting of soft loans to enable them to engage in income generating ventures. He also asked the opening of more vocational and technical schools to train the youth in employable skills.
The chiefs also touched on the HIV/AIDS pandemic and called for the intensification of education on it. They drew attention to the pollution of the Odumase dam by some unscrupulous people who use poisonous chemicals to fish in it and the danger posed by the Patrensa bridge to vehicles and people, especially school children. The DCE, on his part expressed appreciation to the chiefs and Queen Mothers for their role at ensuring peace and tranquillity in the district.
He assured them that the Positive Change Chapter Two would see the construction of more feeder roads, improved quality education, sanitation and the extension of the electrification project to most of the communities.
Nana Adu Asabre, the Asante-Akim North constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), called for a halt to the backbiting of people in authority, particularly the DCE in an attempt to get him out of office since nobody would be appointed from the district without his endorsement.
