Nkoranza (B/A) Sept. 7, GNA - The International Association of Humanitarian Medicine, an Italy-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), is to offer support for the development of Nkoranza Health Centre in Brong-Ahafo Region.
Mr Richard Kwasi Hinneh, Nkoranza District Director of Health Services, told the Ghana News Agency that the NGO was concerned with mobilizing support for health activities and Ghana was the first beneficiary country in Sub-Saharan Africa. He said the Nkoranza Centre had been selected as a pilot project and would be provided with equipment and infrastructure to enable it to provide quality health care.
The District Director noted that the upgrading of the Centre would accelerate the development of the District. Mr Hinneh paid special tribute to Nkoranza citizens based in Italy, who had come together to form "Nkoranza Kroye Kuo" and had encouraged the medical team of the NGO to come to Ghana. Mr Hinneh said the NGO collaborated with allies including Africa Libera of Italy, Nkoranza Kroye Kuo and Medicine without Wars, adding, the Ghana Health Services would also assist the NGO in its activities and programmes.
The medical team of the NGO would not hesitate in transferring patients with cases beyond their competence from Ghana to Italy for their complete cure, he said.
A memorandum of understanding would be signed between the Ghana Health Service, Nkoranza District Assembly and Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council towards the official launch of the Project at Nkoranza.
