Hohoe, Jan. 10, GNA -The 60th Anniversary celebration of the Jasikan College of Education ("Maroonians") has been officially launched to kick-start preparations for the event to be climaxed next year.

Dr Kwasi Asiamah, Senior Lecturer, School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, Legon, urged alumni of the College to continue to seek knowledge by taking advantage of distance education platforms to upgrade themselves academically.

He said its terms were flexible and that it offered professionals with varied backgrounds the opportunity to enroll while still on the job.

Mr Kwasi Aboagye, Governing Council Chairman paid glowing tribute to the forebears, saying that standards set six decades ago continued to bear fruits locally, nationally and internationally.

He commended the outgoing principal, Mr Freeborn Wotordzor, for the foresight in laying a solid foundation for a sachet water (pure water) production business to boost the institution's internally generated funds.

Mr Aboagye called on major stakeholders to redouble efforts at developing the infrastructure of the College to merit its upgrading to a tertiary facility from an ordinary certificate ‘B’ training school.

Mr Kwaku Ansi, acting Principal of the College congratulated old Maroonians for turning out in their numbers to witness the launch and urged them to reposition themselves towards contributing to the course and success of the anniversary.

The event also coincided with the handing over and retirement ceremony of the outgoing Principal, Mr Wotordzor, who thanked all and sundry for making his administration peaceful and fulfilling.
