The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is contributing to the formulation of a comprehensive spatial development plan for Kumasi and six adjoining districts.

The districts are Ejisu-Juaben, Kwabre East, Atwima-Kwanwoma, Bosomtwe, Atwima-Nwabiagya and Afigya-Kwabre.

Boundaries dividing the districts had virtually melted down hence the need for well structured framework to effectively manage development.

Consequently, a day’s stakeholder consultative meeting that brought together assembly members, heads of departments, traditional rulers, officials of the National Development Planning Commission, the Ministries of Finance and Economic Planning, Local Government and Rural Development, and Environment, Science and Technology, has been held at Nkawie.

Mrs Rosemond Adusei, Ashanti Regional Director of the Town and Country Department, said the meeting was to enable participants to fashion out a long term strategic plan, and subsequent statutory defined land use patterns, for the proper management of urban growth.

She hoped that the meeting would come out with a blue print to guide and regulate the development of physical structures.**
