Drobo (B/A) May 10, GNA - Mrs Lilian Azuba Ayuko, Jaman South District Director of Education in the Brong Ahafo Region , has urged students, teachers and other stakeholders of education to maintain the high standard of academic performance. This, she said would enable the District chalk more laurels in educati= on.
Mrs Ayuko attributed the impressive performance by junior high schools (JHS) in the District to the exhibition of 93a high sense of discipline, diligence, dedication and commitment", by stakeholders. Speaking to newsmen on an overview of educational standards in the area, she expressed content with the 93overwhelming performance" of the District's schools in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).
The District placed sixth in the country in the 2010 edition of the BECE and took the second position in Brong Ahafo. Mrs Ayuko commended the Government for providing free school uniforms, capitation grant, school feeding programme, which she said had been worthy incentives.
She, however, expressed concern about recent clashes between students of some JHS and personnel of Ghana Police Service at Drobo. The District Director advised the students not to resort to rampage or violent demonstrations to demand their rights but should go through the proper channels to seek redress. Mr Julius Atta Bediako, District Chief Executive, noted that education was the greatest tool for development, given the basic conditions, discipline and hard work. He gave the assurance that government would continue to distribute exercise books free of charge, embark on the provision of massive infrastructure for schools, increase the capitation grant and ensure the execution of the two proposed universities in the Volta and Brong Ahafo Regions. Mr Bediako implored the citizenry to intensify the crusade against indiscipline among the youth.
