Jaman South District exceeds revenue target

Drobo (B/A), April 1, GNA- Jaman South District Assembly collected 880.60 Ghana cedis far above the estimated target of GHc 113,368 for the 2007 fiscal year.

Mr Apraku Tanoh, District Chief Executive, who announced this at the assembly's meeting, acknowledged the remarkable improvement on the 2006 fiscal year's collection of GHc 66,800.

He commended the revenue collectors and other stakeholders for contributing to the increase in revenue and said the Assembly would provide adequate incentives and logistics to prevent toll evasion. Mr Tanoh said the Assembly would adopt more stringent and pragmatic mechanisms towards achieving this year's revenue target of 203,613.06 Ghana cedis.

He announced that GHC 25,000 had been earmarked for the cultivation of Jatropha (Nkrankonnua in Akan) in the district and asked successful applicants to access the fund, which had been lodged with the Drobo Community Bank.

Ms Anna Nyamekye, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, appealed to individuals and groups to contribute to District Education Endowment Fund, which would become operational next September, apart from paying the GHp 50 levy imposed on each citizen.

Ms Nyamekye also the Member of Parliament for Jaman South, commended the District Assembly for allocating GHC 10,000 of the Assembly Common Fund for the endowment fund.

Mr Gabriel Kofi Kyeremeh, Presiding Member of the Assembly, commended his colleagues for working hard to ensure an increase in the membership of the District Mutual Scheme and urged them to intensify education on the benefits of the package.

He said the scheme had 84,193 registered members with total attendance at the various health centres in 2007 at 104,224 and corresponding claims of GHc 771,177.10.

Mr Thomas Wilberforce Tuah, District Co-ordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme, said as at March this year, 821 youth had been employed in six modules under the programme. Mr Kofi Boamah Djan, a government appointee and a road expert, commended J. Adom Limited, the contractor working on the Drobo-Sampa highway for the remarkable progress made on the project.
