The Member of Parliament for Jaman South, Mr. Yaw Afful, has praised Ms Dora Ama Tamea, the District Chief Executive, for maintaining peace in the area.
Mr. Afful said this when addressing a gathering at the District’s commemoration of the 57th independence anniversary on Thursday at Drobo.
It was on the theme “Building a Better and Prosperous Ghana through Patriotism and National Unity”.
Mr. Afful said that was the first time an opposition MP had been given the platform on such an occasion to address the people and that Ms Tamea was in for all, irrespective of one’s political affiliation.
The MP briefly recounted Ghana’s struggle for independence from colonial rule to liberation and sovereignty and that Ghana would be seen as truly independent if all citizens were patriotic and nationalistic in every aspect of national life.
Ms Tamea appealed to the people to unite for the development of the District, saying political and religious extremism, chieftaincy disputes and land litigations would not take them anywhere.
“This is our time to keep the spirit that has defined our past and keeps us united in spite of our varied political, tribal, religious and chieftaincy backgrounds,” she said.
Ms Tamea said the current generation had the obligation to emulate the efforts and sacrifices of the forefathers through whose sweat and toil the nation gained independence.
