Japan Ambassador calls on Information Minister

Mr Naoto Nikai, Japan Ambassador to Ghana on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Mr Mahama Ayariga, Minister of Information and Media Relations on Wednesday in Accra.

Mr Nikai congratulated Mr Mahama Ayariga on his new position and expressed the hope that the good relationship between Ghana and Japan would further be strengthened.

He said even though Ghana has attained a lower middle income status, the government of Japan would continue to provide support in the area of education, agricultural, community development and human capacity building.

He announced that Japan would be hosting the Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development in June this year and expressed the hope that participating Africa leaders would use the occasion to address the challenges facing the continent.

Mr Ayariga, thanked the Ambassador for the continuous assistance that Ghana has received from the Japanese government.

He said President John Dramani Mahama believed in an open and transparent government, where information is easily accessible and would ensure the passage of the right to information bill and broadcasting law.

He noted that government would also provide resources to agencies like the Ghana News Agency and the Information Service Department to be able to function effectively.

Mr Ayariga said the government of Ghana cherished the mutual relationship between Ghana and Japan and expressed the hope that it would further be strengthened.
