JayNii Street Wise Foundation, an orphanage in the James town community, has held a pre-xmas night to help mobilise funds to provide the necessary needs for the children in the home.

Mr Emmanuel Quartey, Founder of the foundation told Ghana News Agency that the night was full of activities such as cultural display, music and dance and the sale of drinks and foods was to help raise funds for the children as well as promote African music.

Mr Quartey said the event helped to unearth talents in music, to create job opportunities to promote local artists.

He said by so doing it makes the children happy as the lack of finance to run the place has restricted them from organising Christmas parties for the kids for a long time.

Alex Kuchaiski, the organiser of the pre-xmas night said the children were wonderful people who needed the support of everybody in the country to make them have a place to sleep and food to eat.

He thus called on government, stakeholders, non-governmental organisations to come to the aid of the vulnerable children.

The Foundation was started as a dance troop around 1997 in James Town but has grown into a fully fledged home for a lot of street children since 2007.

The home started with 10 children but the number has grown to 50. The children have been enrolled in school and after classes are thought extra-curricular activities such as music and cultural dance.
