The Chairman of the Parents Teacher Association (PTA) of the Jirapa Senior High School, Jude Korbieh, has issued a passionate appeal to the general public, as well as to the government, to come to the aid of the school.

This is after the girls' hostel of the school was razed down by fire on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

In his appeal, the PTA chairman said that it is a sad thing that has befallen the school and that there is a need for all hands to come on board to help especially the girls cope in this difficult time.

"As the PTA Chairman of Jirapa SHS, I use this opportunity to appeal to everybody to come to our aid. Part of the girls' hostel got burnt today in the afternoon when everybody was in class.

"Apart from what these girls wore to class, all their belongings got burnt. Help the school with anything that you have. It could be clothing, cash, etc," he said in a message he shared with GhanaWeb.

Adding his voice to the public appeal, Abu Kansangbata, who was a deputy minister in the Upper West Region, under the John Dramani Mahama era, urged the government to turn its attention to the school.

He said that this disaster has further exposed the girls, particularly because they are already quite marginalised.

"As a former deputy minister for the region, I am passionately appealing to the government and other agencies, including development partners in and outside the country, to come to the aid of these vulnerable, marginalized, distressed girls.

"As a major stakeholder from the region, it is quite worrying for these girls to be homeless and be exposed to the vagaries of the weather in the northern parts of Ghana," he also said.

The Headmaster of the Jirapa SHS, Primus Baro, has also added his voice to the appeals.

Below are some photos of the damage that was caused to students' properties at the hostel:
