Akim Oda, Dec. 27, GNA - The Joduro Integrated School at Akim Oda, which presented 22 candidates for the 2004 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) recorded 100 per cent passes in the examination with nine students securing aggregate six.
The Executive Director and Founder of the school, Mr Joe D. Oduro, who disclosed this at the 10th anniversary and first graduation ceremony of the school said, five out of the nine candidates, who secured aggregate six were girls.
He attributed the success story of the school to the fact that one teacher was not allowed to teach all subjects to a class, adding that the system made the school to employ over 66 teachers.
Mr Oduro said the school aimed at equipping the learner and the teacher with requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes that would enable the teacher to offer dedicated service and be encouraged to aspire for higher educational levels to serve as a role model to the students. He said with a modest intake of less than 100 pupils in 1994, the school now has an enrolment of 900 pupils.
In a speech read on her behalf, the Birim South District Director of Education, Mrs Stella K. Nanor reminded parents that their children were their greatest assets and therefore, they should invest in their education.
"Apart from the provision of adequate well-balanced diet, stationery, clothing, and prompt payment of school levies, children should be encouraged to study at home", she said.
Mrs Narnoh advised parents to pay regular visits to the school and interact with pupils and teachers to get first-hand information on the performance and needs of their wards.
She called on teachers not only to teach the children how to read and write but inculcate into them good moral virtues by their own examples.
The Chairperson of the West Akim Presbytery, Rev. Mrs Alice Anti, urged teachers to make good use of instructional hours, shun apathy to work and help ensure quality education.
