Jomoro Assembly supports teacher-trainees

The Jomoro District Assembly in the Western Region, has presented GHC10,000 to 67 pupil teachers from the district undertaking courses at the Enchi College of Education under the Untrained Teacher Diploma in Basic Education (UTDBE) Programme.

The teachers made up of 33 males and 34 females, are attending a four-year teacher training course, and will become professional teachers on completion.

They were selected on merit among several pupil teachers in the district, after passing an examination conducted by the Jomoro District Education Directorate.

The teachers who are on vacation, are doing teaching practice in some basic schools in the district, as part of the training.

Presenting the cheque at Half Assini, the District Chief Executive Mr Sylvester Nuomah Daddieh, said the gesture was the Assembly’s commitment towards quality education delivery in the area.

He urged the trainees to lead exemplary lives.

Mr. Daddieh urged them to encourage their colleagues without good passes in English and Mathematics, to better them to enable them qualify for the next training programme.

The District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Abudu Amadu, a former teacher, asked the trainees to accept postings to rural areas after their course.

Assistant Director In charge of Supervision at the Jomoro District Directorate of Education, Ms. Agnes Arthur, appealed to teachers to dress decently to school for their children to emulate them.

Ms Comfort A. Ntoni, Deputy Director of Education, urged the teachers to show respect to their superiors in order to bring discipline into the teaching profession.

She said humility, respect, hard work and discipline were some of the hallmarks of success in life.

Mr. Solomon Appiah, trainer at the Enchi College of Education, who was with the trainees, advised them to prepare their lesson notes in note books, instead of on sheet of papers.

He expressed gratitude to the Assembly for showing interest in the training of teachers in the district.

Similar programmes, he said, had taken place in the Ellembele District, and Asankragua would be the next beneficiary district.

Mr Dominic Asare, leader of the group, received the cheque on behalf of his colleagues, and thanked the Assembly for the gesture.

He promised that they would learn hard and come back after their course, to help promote quality education in the district.
