Journalists urged to be discernible in reportage

Kumasi, Feb.17, GNA- Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Ashanti Regional Minister has called on Media Practitioners to be discernible in what they present to the public. He said there was the need for practitioners to be very objective in their presentation of issues and programmes to promote unity and progress.

Mr. Owusu-Ansah was addressing a press soiree organized by the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi on Saturday. The Regional Minister appealed to the Journalists to always endeavour to listen to the other side of the coin so that they portray the two sides of the coin adding, "if you do that you get a good presentation"

He congratulated the Media in the region on their tremendous contributions towards the development programmes in the region with special emphasis on their contributions towards the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), 2008.

Mr. Owusu-Ansah hinted that plans were far advanced at his office for a special open day programme to showcase the achievements of the region and the districts this year and called on the media to continue to support when the time comes. He said the year was a crucial one in terms of the general elections and urged the media practitioners to help in that direction to ensure successful elections. Nana Yaw Osei, acting Ashanti Regional chairman of the Ashanti Chapter of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) appealed to the Minister to assist the Association to acquire a press centre. He said the Association intended to organize a "Meet the Media" exercise in the region and called for cooperation from the Council.
