Juabeso-Bia Assembly spends on 107 projects

Sefwi-Adjoafua (W/R), June 3, GNA - A total of 107 infrastructural facilities valued at more than 51 billion cedis have been completed for a number of communities in the Juaboso-Bia District within the past three years.

They include 33 school projects and six area council offices at Benchema, Adjoafua, Boizan, Amoaya, Afere and Bodi to promote quality education and local government administration.

The projects, most of which have been completed and others on-going also include health, office and residential accommodation for officers of decentralized departments, a new administration block for the district assembly, markets, an abattoir and roads.

They were funded from the Assembly's share of the Common Fund with support from institutions and other development partners including the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which provided a seven billion cedi modern hospital at Juabeso.

Other supports were from the GetFund, Social Investment Fund, HIPC Fund and the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA). Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Western Regional Minister on Tuesday performed the symbolic inauguration of the Area Council offices at a ceremony at Adjoafua as part of his three-day tour of the Juaboso-Bia District.

He commended the district assembly for working hard to reduce poverty and promote wealth creation and called on the people to reciprocate the gesture by providing regular communal labour on projects that would be initiated for them.

The Regional Minister also reminded parents of their responsibilities to their children and the community and said it would be prudent to spend their scarce resources to provide quality education for their children.

He urged chiefs, assembly members and other community leaders to rekindle the communal spirit among the people to speed up the pace of development in the area.

Mr. Aidoo reaffirmed the government's determination to pursue programmes that would reduce poverty and create wealth to make the country a better place for all.

On behalf of the Regional Coordinating Council the Minister donated 200 bags of cement towards the building of a new classroom block for the Methodist Primary "A" School.

Mr. Adiyaa Mensah, Chairman of the Adjoafua Area Council commended the government for initiating the mass cocoa spraying exercise, which he said had been of great benefit to farmers.

He appealed for the provision of a potable water system for the community and also urged the Ministry of Health to upgrade the local clinic to a hospital.

He spoke about the poor nature of roads in the area and appealed to the government to rehabilitate them.

The Regional Minister, accompanied by Mr. Sylvester Anemana, Regional Director of Health Services, Madam Elisabeth Nkrumah, Regional Coordinator Social Investment Fund and Mr. Benjamin Armah, Juaboso-Bia District Chief Executive, inspected some of the development projects in the district.

He commissioned new classroom blocks at Sefwi-Bodi, Sefwi-Suiano, Bonsu-Nkwanta and Sefwi-Adabokrom.
