Judicial Service to stem redundancy labour

Cape Coast Sept. 26, GNA- The Chief Justice, Mr Justice George Acquah, on Friday, ordered all law courts in the country to record the number of qualified staff on their pay rolls and those found to be redundant, removed.

He said there are many people on the service's pay roll who do "virtually nothing but are paid, adding that of the 80 billion cedis budget for the service, 60 billion cedis goes into payment of salaries". Mr Justice Acquah was speaking a workshop on " judicial statistics performance management", for court officials in the Central Region. The workshop aimed at deepening the understanding and appreciation of the participants in the transformation process of the Service.

He said "some of the staff have been recruited into the service through dubious means, and that the service was "overstaffed with unqualified people, because some personnel managers, for selfish interests and in their bid to make easy and quick money, just "employed anybody".

The Chief Justice, announced that from next month, all the courts will be required to begin proper record keeping and submission of annual reports, stressing that no institution can function well without proper statistics

He called for support, hard work, honesty, commitment and dedication from the staff to move the judicial service forward.

Mr. Justice Acquah said he is determined to uproot all malpractices within the service and that working conditions are improved. He hinted that a housing scheme for judges, has taken off, and would be extended to other staff of the service to motivate them to give of their best.
