Professor Ohene Adjei, Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), has appealed for more public support to enable the facility to provide quality health care services to the people.

He said public-spirited individuals and groups should accept to complement the government’s efforts.

He said given the hospital’s strategic location it is always under pressure in terms of logistics, consumables, drugs and equipment and in the face of dwindling revenue from both internal and government sources, generous support from the public has become necessary.

Prof Ohene said it is a delight to see individuals, corporate organisations and groups helping to meet some of the needs of KATH and enhancing the quality of care for patients.

He made the appeal at a ceremony to officially hand over the renovated “D 5” Ward of the hospital.

The project, which involved the laying of floor tiles, painting and upgrading of washrooms and other sanitary facilities, was financed by the Member of Parliament for (MP) Bantama, Mr Kwabena Kokofu.

The MP also donated four wheelchairs, three 32-in LCD television sets, a refrigerator, five ceiling fans, large quantity of toilet roll, gloves, 10 gallons each of perfumed floor detergents, parazone and washing detergent.

Additionally, he adopted the Ward to provide periodic financial and material support to bring comfort to the patients.

Prof. Ohene Adjei praised the MP for adopting the Ward and said the gesture should inspire others to do their bit towards the improvement of facilities at the hospital.

Mr Kokofu said health and education are dear to his heart and promised to establish a Foundation to help promote education and quality health care delivery in the constituency.

He called for a review of the health insurance and capitation system, piloted in the Ashanti Region for almost two years, saying, it is stifling the hospitals of revenue and impeding their operations.

Dr Agyenim Boateng, acting Head of the Directorate of Medicine, said the D-block, which has erroneously been labelled a “departure block”, requires assistance to improve its operations and thanked the MP for the gesture.
